Amakula Kampala Cultural Foundation has been at the forefront of promoting the culture of cinema in Uganda since 2004. Whereas our flagship platform has been the annual Amakula Kampala International Film Festival, we have been engaging communities at different levels, using film as a tool for cultural dialogue. Through our mobile cinema program, audiences have been able to access films that they would otherwise never be able to find in mainstream cinema halls or video libraries. Through a diversity of avenues, Amakula has been able to introduce important film works from around the world to local audiences. This has allowed locals to experience the world and to know about the cultures and traditions of other peoples as well as the important happenings from which many lessons have been learnt. And through our film workshops, we have been able to demystify the video camera and enabled many Ugandans to tell their stories through film.
