ABOUT AMAA


The African Movie Academy Awards, AMAA is an offshoot of the African Film Academy. The Academy founded on the best film tradition, is geared towards research, training and propagating film making in Africa. Behind it are film producers, directors, designers, writers, critics and scholars who share in the belief of a renaissant African film.

AMAA is thus conceptualized as an annual celebration of the brightest and the best in African movie. It is about class and style, blitz, glitz and razzmatazz. It is the biggest gathering of movie makers across the African continent and the diaspora. It is to show to the world that the rating of Nollywood (Nigeria) as the third largest producers of movie is real.

For the maiden edition, movies are already in from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Liberia, Ghana, of course Nigeria and some are expected from French West African countries. The internationally acclaimed personalities behind the films will equally in the country. Add to these the showbiz czars, film stars, political big wigs, business tycoons among others that will throng the Civic Center, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on April 30, for the Awards… We can only whisper that it is breathtaking. And the clincher. Bayelsa State is rolling the red carpet for everyone as it lives up to its billing as the Glory of all Lands.

Our Vision:
The Academy’s vision is to be the African’s biggest and best Awards for the Movie Industry.

Our Mission:
The mission of the Academy is to promote the african culture, encourage professionalism in the movie industry, offer professional development and networking opportunities.

THE CEREMONY:
The winners of each category are announced on the night of the event during the live broadcast.
The ceremony also showcases Africa’s best performances and brings the cream of African actors and actresses together under one roof.

THE OBJECTIVES OF AMAA

* To promote African Actors, Actresses, Producers and their works internationally.
* To unite Africa through acts.
* To Produce a world-class movie awards.

THE AMAA TARGET MARKETS

* The masses throughout the African continent.
* The Media and primarily television.
* Movie viewers in other parts of the world outside the african continent.
* The African Movie Producers, Actors and Actresses themselves.

* The Awards serve as a recognition of movie and acting excellence within Africa and its Diaspora.
* The African Movie Academy Awards is a prestigious annual event broadcasts live.




PROJECT TEAM


AMAA is driven by a nine man implementation committee whose selection is based on experience, knowledge of the industry and organizational skill:

CEO. Mrs. Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima; Lawyer, Poet, Publisher and Executive Producer/Producer. Her worldwide contacts will give the award its cutting edge by attracting the brightest and best in all departments.

Technical Director, Greg Fiberesima; Cinematographer and Director with long list of credits.


Linda Stefandottir, International Technical Adviser
Director, Marketing and Promotions, Mr. Chike Akweogwu; Management Consultant.
Fidelis Duker, DGN, Festival Director, Abuja Film Festival; Event Consultant.

Director, Programmes, Sunny Mcdon; Actor, Producer and Director. Will handle every detail of the programmes for the event.


Secretary to Implementation Committee/Director of Administration; Tony Anih, Producer/Director. Will run the secretariat on a day to day basis.
Kaine Agary, International Laisons and International Publicist
Media Affairs, Oji Onoko, former Deputy Editor, THISDAY and Former member, Editorial Board, THE SUN, Will co-ordinate the information flow on the awards.
