L’histoire de quatre aspirants djihadistes qui vivent à Sheffield (Nord de l’Angleterre) et décident collectivement de devenir des bombes humaines pour des attentats suicide lors du marathon de Londres.

Un tel argument ne pouvait être qu’une mauvaise blague de Chris Morris, sorte de Monty Python spécialiste ès humour morbide, provocateur invétéré avec ses parodies de flashs infos (BRASS EYES et THE DAY TODAY), que certains connaissent sans doute grâce à son exceptionnelle série JAM, version cathodique de l’émission de radio trash BLUE JAM, où ce qui passait oralement pour une blague potache devenait à l’écran un véritable massacre des valeurs, intolérable pour certains. Avec FOUR LIONS, son premier long métrage, il enfonce le clou des tabous en proposant une nouvelle fois de tourner en dérision les peurs actuelles.

This entertaining, and controversial, satire tells the story of four would-be jihadists who live in Sheffield and who collectively decide to become suicide bombers. Omaj and Waj attend a terrorist training camp in Pakistan while Barry and Faisal take a different approach and attempt to train crows as bombers. The film culminates in the four ideologically confused men trying to blow themselves up at the London Marathon. With great acting and superb writing, the film pulls off the difficult balancing act of constructing a comedy about terrorism without undermining the serious nature of its subject matter.
