Une fillette africaine, totalement dévouée aux habitants de son village, est blessée et est alors emmenée à l’hôpital des blancs. Durant son agonie, elle insiste pour voir une dernière fois Katutu, un vieillard aveugle et païen irréductible. Elle exprime alors sa dernière volonté : que Katutu se convertisse au catholicisme.
