Executive produced by master 1950’s photographer Jürgen Schadeberg, who also featured in the film Drum, starring Taye Diggs, this is the story of an island and a country. Robben Island has been everything from a leper colony to a nature reserve to a high-security prison for the most famous South African of all, Nelson Mandela.
In this fascinating documentary we get to learn about the island’s past and how its last political inhabitants, including Walter Sisulu and Govan Mbeki, who were sent there for life, despaired, stuck together, thought together and laid the blueprint for what would finally become the new South Africa.
