« Layali Bala Noom » (Nuits sans sommeil – Sleepless nights) fait se rencontrer deux personnes irrémédiablement marquées par la guerre du Liban: l’ancien responsable des services secrets de la milice Chrétienne des « Forces Libanaises », Assaad Shaftari, en quête de rédemption, et Maryam Saiidi, qui recherche désespérément son fils communiste Maher, disparu il y a 30 ans au cours d’une opération militaire planifiée par le parti de Assaad. Leur rencontre pourrait-elle apporter de l’espoir et fermer les plaies d’une guerre civile vieille de 38 ans?

« Sleepless » are the nights of Assaad Shaftari, the former high-ranking intelligence officer in the Lebanese Forces militia, who feels guilt for his bloody acts during the civil war, and the nights of Maryam Saidi, who’s still searching for her son Maher, a young communist fighter who disappeared in 1982. While each of them is looking for salvation, the film asks if redemption and forgiveness
are possible in a community that seems unable to heal itself.

« ليال بلا نوم »
هي الجامع المشترك الذي يدور فيه الفيلم، حيث مسؤول المخابرات السابق في القوّات اللبنانيّة، أسعد الشفتري، يبحث عن سبيل التطهر ونيل الغفران على الماضي الدموي الذي انخرط فيه إبّان الحرب الأهليّة الطويلة، ومريم سعيدي المرأة التي لا تتعب من الأمل الواهن في البحث عن ابنها الفتى الذي كان مقاتلاً في صفوف الحزب الشيوعي اللبناني، واختفى أثره سنة ١٩٨٢. كلّ منهما يبحث عن خلاصه، هي من الألم وهو من الندم، وبينهما العديد من الشخصيّات التي تدّعي القدرة في مجتمع لا يجد علاجا » النوم « على حقيقيّا لجراحه، ولا حاول ذلك
