Une oasis perdue dans le désert saharien à plus de 700km d’Alger. Une société fonctionnant encore sur des rituels séculaires. Le seul lien avec la ville est un autobus qui passe une fois par jour. Moussa, handicapé de naissance, y vit avec sa soeur Zineb ; ils essayent, à deux, de reconstituer une cellule familiale que la guerre a détruite. La famille, c’est le rêve des temps idylliques de l’enfance, des temps où les parents prenaient toutes les responsabilités. Moussa est parfaitement autonome, bien qu’il n’ait pas de bras, il adore pourtant se faire aider par sa soeur. Zineb, quant à elle, n’ose affronter l’univers du nouveau que constituerait un mariage. La vie passe rythmée par les mêmes gestes. Zineb prend le bus pour aller travailler à l’usine de conditionnement de dattes. Moussa va voir le maître d’école, dessine ou rêve à Mériem, la femme qu’il aime. Dans le sable pousse en secret une rose que Moussa arrose tous les jours.
