En 1996, le réalisateur et écrivain Manthia Diawara, retourne en Guinée, 32 années après que sa famille ait été expulsée de la nouvelle Guinée indépendante. Malgré toutes ses années, Diawara espère être reçu comme un enfant du pays mais ce n’est pas le cas. Tout au long de son voyage, le réalisateur s’interroge sur l’Afrique confrontée au nouveau millénaire et à l’après-guerre froide.

In 1996, the filmmaker and writer Manthia Diawara, now living in New York, returns to Guinea, thirty-two years after he and his family were expelled from the newly liberated country. Despite the years that have gone by, Diawara expects to be welcomed as an insider, and is shocked to discover that he is not.
