L’histoire de l’amitié entre Camilia, une femme de la ville divorcée et stérile, rêvant d’indépendance, et de Hind, une veuve venant du monde rural voulant retrouver son village natal. Toutes deux sont domestiques dans des familles bourgeoises. Elles subissent courageusement l’exploitation de leurs parents et tentent futilement de trouver une issue dans un second mariage. Ce n’est que lorsque Hind met au monde une petite fille, que Camilia prénomme Ahlan (« Rêves »), que la force du lien qui les unit s’affirme contre tout.

The story of two lower-middle class women trying to survive with their dreams in 1980’s Egypt.

The story of the friendship between Camilia, a divorced and sterile city woman dreaming of independence, and Hind, a widow from the rural world who wants to return to her native village. Both are servants in middle-class families. They courageously endure the exploitation of their parents and futilely try to find a way out in a second marriage. It is only when Hind gives birth to a little girl, whom Camilia names Ahlan (« Dreams »), that the strength of the bond which unites them asserts itself against everything.
