En janvier 2009, alors qu’Israël bombarde Gaza, Rashid Masharawi est à Bagdad pour faire un film sur les jeunes enfants contraints de travailler dans l’après-guerre en Irak. Comparant leur vie à celle des enfants qui connaissent un sort similaire à Gaza, le film présente un monde dans lequel chacun, peu importe son âge, doit lutter pour survivre. En tant que Palestinien et Gazaoui, avec une expérience personnelle de la vie dans les camps de réfugiés, le profond sentiment d’identification de Masharawi avec les traumatismes des enfants en fait un rapport profondément touchant et personnel de la situation locale.

Rashid Masharawi visited Baghdad to meet the young children forced to work around the city, drawing parallels between them and youngsters in Gaza.
In January 2009, while Israel is bombarding Gaza, Rashid Masharawi is in Baghdad making a film on young children forced to work in post-war Iraq. Contrasting their lives with those of similarly burdened Gazan children, the film presents a world in which everyone, no matter how young, has to struggle to survive. As a Palestinian and Gazan, with extensive personal experience of life in refugee camps, Masharawi’s deep sense of identification with the children’s traumas makes for a deeply affecting and authoritative document of local situation.
