Journaliste, critique de cinéma, consultant en communication et poète sénégalais.
Né à Tivaouane, Sénégal, Bassirou NIANG est à la fois journaliste (culturel) et consultant en communication. Riche d’une expérience professionnelle de plus de quinze ans, il est titulaire d’un DES en Communication à l’Issic et d’un Certificat de Spécialisation en Littérature française moderne et contemporaine (mention assez-bien -Ucad), d’un Certificat sur les enjeux de l’intégration sous-régionale en Afrique de l’Ouest (Cesti-Institut international de journalisme de Berlin).
Il a collaboré avec de nombreux quotidiens et magazines du Sénégal et d’ailleurs dont Le Matin, Walf Quotidien, Émergence Plus, Notre Afrik (Belgique) dont il a été pendant deux ans l’un des correspondants à Dakar.
Membre de la Fédération Africaine de la Critique Cinématographique FACC) depuis 2007, en tant que Critique de cinéma, il fait partie des rédacteurs des sites www.africine.org et www.imagesfrancophones.org ainsi que des revues spécialisées SENCINÉ et AWOTELE. Il a aussi participé à des rencontres cinématographiques sur le continent et a été membre du jury de la critique aux JCC 2016 et de celui du Festival International du film Documentaire (FIFD 2019) de Saint-Louis (Sénégal). Il était dans le Comité d’organisation des RECIDAK 2018 notamment de la Commission Presse.
Sa vie professionnelle a été marquée par des prestations dans des organismes de développement (FAO), dans des structures culturelles (Biennale 2012 par le biais de l’agence de communication Osmose) ou encore pour le compte du Goethe Institut Sénégal et de la télévision allemande WDR/ARTE.
Par ailleurs, Bassirou NIANG a publié, en 1994, dans la prestigieuse revue littéraire Suisse [VWA] de La-Chaux-de-Fonds, un recueil de treize pieces (poèmes) sous le titre de « Sillon d’un moi-même » et participé à une anthologie – « Saison d’amour et de colère » – publiée par les NEAS en 1998 et ayant regroupé à l’époque les textes (poèmes et nouvelles) de vingt jeunes auteurs du Burkina-Fao, du Mali, du Niger et du Sénégal, sous à direction de Boubacar Boris Diop et d’Hélène Bezanson.En 2011, il publie un essai sous le titre « Identitât(en), Que Sum ? » dans le Catalogue des artistes allemands et sénégalais dénommé « Bastard Project Dakar, Goethe Institut Sénégal, 2011 ».
En 2019, il est membre du jury officiel du 6e Festival du film documentaire de Saint-Louis, Sénégal, présidé par Ousmane William Mbaye, aux côtés d’Aïcha Thiam, Fatima Fall et Saliou « Alibeta » Sarr.

He has collaborated with many dailies and magazines in Senegal and elsewhere including Le Matin, Walf Quotidien, Émergence Plus, Notre Afrik (Belgium) for which he was one of the correspondents in Dakar for two years.
