Gilli Apter

Gilli Apter is a young filmmaker who has spent the last years working on commercials, music videos and documentaries, and previously studied at AFDA – South African School of Motion Picture and Live Performance. Gilli’s short films, SA/X and Box were screened in Cannes in 2005. SA/X has gone on to many festivals, winning various awards. Gilli wants to focus on making films that are relevant and that are also able to make light of the confused situation that South Africa finds itself in, ten years into democracy. As a young, female director Gilli is one of the up-and-coming filmmakers who believes that there is a great platform, with great opportunities, to revive South African entertainment and to make it something that will exceed its own potential.
