Simphiwe Dana est née à Gcuwa (anciennement Butterworth, Transkei, Afrique du Sud) et appartient au peuple Xhosa.
Elle joue le rôle de Mandisa dans THEMBA (Stefanie Sycholt, 2010), son premier film en tant qu’actrice.
En Afrique du Sud, les chansons qu’elle interprète de sa voix aux accents jazz swing passent sur toutes les radios. Une musique hors du commun entre la pop, le gospel, le funk et les sonorités traditionnelles

Makes her film acting debut in THEMBA (Stefanie Sycholt, 2010). Simphiwe Dana was born in Gcuwa (former Butterworth, Transkei) and belongs to the Xhosa people. She grew up with the traditional music of her homeland, which she combines, as a singer, with African Pop, Hip-Hop, Soul, Gospel and Jazz. In South Africa, she has been one of the Top Stars for many years and received many awards (South African Music Awards, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, as well as Platin Status for her debut album). During the Football World Cup in Berlin, she performed in front of the Brandenburger Tor, as well as at the Jazz Fest in Vienna. In 2007, she toured throughout Europe for several months.
