Scandar Copti est un citoyen palestinien de l’Etat d’Israël. Il est né et a grandi à Jaffa. Après l’obtention de son diplôme d’ingénieur à l’école Polytechnique israélienne, « Le Technion », il décide d’abandonner sa profession et de poursuivre son rêve d’enfance : devenir réalisateur. Après avoir étudié la comédie et l’écriture de scénario, Scandar réalise un faux documentaire de 12 minutes, THE TRUTH. Le film, produit par le Festival International du Film Etudiant de Tel-Aviv, est acclamé pour son courage politique. THE TRUTH a été projeté lors de la réunion des Artistes Contre l’Occupation en 2003 à Montréal et a été acheté par la chaîne de télévision israélienne Channel 8 avant d’être censuré.
Depuis, Scandar a écrit, réalisé et monté des films de fiction, des documentaires et des courts métrages expérimentaux. Ses travaux vidéos ont été projetés au Centre d’Art Digital israélien, au Musée d’art contemporain d’Herzliya et à la Redding Art Fair 5 à Tel-Aviv.
Il a coréalisé avec Yaron Shani le long métrage AJAMI (2009).

Scandar Copti is a Palestinian citizen of the Israeli state, born and raised in Jaffa. After graduating from the Israeli polytechnic « The Technion » as a mechanical engineer, he decided to leave his profession and pursue his childhood dream of becoming a filmmaker. After studying acting and scriptwriting, Scandar made THE TRUTH, a 12-minute mockumentary which was produced by the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival, and was acclaimed for its bold political statement. THE TRUTH was screened at the 2003 Artists Against Occupation in Montreal, and was purchased by the Israeli Channel 8, but was eventually censored and shelved.
Since then Scandar has written, directed and edited several fiction, documentary and experimental short films. His video art works were screened at the Israeli Center for Digital Art, the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art and at the Redding Art Fair 5 in Tel-Aviv. He directed with Yaron Shani a feature: AJAMI (2009).
