Gabourey « Gabby » SIDIBE est une actrice américaine née le 6 mai 1983.
Elle joue le rôle principal, Clareece « Precious » Jones, dans le film PRECIOUS (Lee Daniels, 2009).

Gabourey Sidibe, née à Brooklyn, fut élevée par sa mère, Alice Tan Ridley, une chanteuse de Gospel et R&B, à Bedford Stuyvesant. Son père, Ibnou Sidibé, d’origine sénégalaise, est chauffeur de taxi. Elle a notamment étudié au City College of New York où elle a obtenu un diplôme en psychologie.

Dans Precious de Lee Daniels, elle interprète le rôle d’une adolescente analphabète obèse et abusée par son père, qui lui a déjà fait une fille de quatre ans. Ce premier rôle lui a valu de nombreuse récompenses et des nominations aux Oscars et au Golden Globes

Gabourey « Gabby » Sidibe (born May 6, 1983) is an American actress who made her acting debut in the 2009 film Precious: Based on the Novel « Push » by Sapphire, a role that has garnered her a nomination for a Best Actress Academy Award.

Sidibe, born in Brooklyn, New York, was raised by her mother in Bedford Stuyvesant.[1] Her mother, Alice Tan Ridley, is an R&B and gospel singer, and her Senegal-born father, Ibnou Sidibe, is a cab driver.[2] She has attended several New York City area colleges: Borough of Manhattan Community College, City College of New York, and Mercy College.[3]
In Precious, Sidibe plays the title character, a physically and sexually abused sixteen-year old that is obese, with a four year old child by her own father and with another child on the way. The film won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe Award and Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Award.[4]
She has finished shooting her next film, Yelling to the Sky, a Sundance Lab project directed by Victoria Mahoney and starring Zoe Kravitz, in which she plays a bully.[5]
On December 15, 2009 she was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her performance in Precious. On February 2, 2010, Sidibe was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
She won Best Actress at the Independent Spirit Awards on March 6, 2010.
