Né en 1969 à Kinston, Carlton Errington Grant, aka Spragga Benz choisit son surnom en hommage à sa voiture préférée et à la fusion du rap et du ragga. Il fait ses débuts avec le single "Could a deal" qui lui permet de se faire reconnaître. Il continue avec "Who dem" et "Girls Hooray". Mais c'est véritablement avec le bad "Jack it Up" que Spragga Benz rentre dans la confrérie des meilleurs deejays yardies. Il sort d'ailleurs un album du même nom chez VP Records en 1994.
Il fait un second album en 1995 "Uncommonly Smooth". Second succès notamment avec son duo avec Chevelle Franklin sur le single "A 1 Lover". Suite à cela, l'Amérique s'intéresse à lui et il bosse successivement avec KRS One, puis le Fugees Wycleff Jean (...)

Carlton Errington Grant (born 30 May 1969) is a Jamaican Dancehall Deejay.
He began his career around 1991. Once known to his friends as "Spaghetti" (tall and slim), but this was later shortened to Spragga. The Benz in his name comes from the sound system for which he used to work for, L.A. Benz, and it is through this that he found his way into the music industry at a Dubplate recording session with Buju Banton. The famed elder DJ was slated to do four tracks for L.A. Benz but only voiced two and suggested that Spragga do the other two. Since he was new to recording, he freestyled a couple of lines of what would then become, "Love Mi Gun", a popular tune (...)
