Omar El Zohairy

Réalisateur et scénariste égyptien.

Né le 27 août 1988 au Caire (Égypte), Omar EL ZOHAIRY est un réalisateur et scénariste. Il obtient son diplôme de l’Institut du Cinéma du Caire en 2013. Il est assistant réalisateur des plus grands réalisateurs égyptiens, dont Yousri Nasrallah. Il réalise en 2011 son premier court-métrage « Breathe Out » (« Zafir »), qui reçoit le Prix Spécial du Jury au festival de Dubai. Son second court-métrage, « The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometer 375 », réalisé en 2014, est le premier film égyptien sélectionné à la Cinéfondation du Festival de Cannes. Par la suite, il reçoit de très nombreux prix dans les festivals du monde entier.
Son premier long métrage « Feathers » (2021) fait sa Première Mondiale au Festival de Cannes 2021 où il remporte le Grand Prix de la 60è Semaine de la Critique.

Egyptian film director and screenwriter.

Born on August 27th, 1988 in Cairo (Egypt), Omar EL ZOHAIRY is a film director and screenwriter. He studied film directing at the High Institute of Cinema in Cairo and worked as an assistant director on feature films of Egypt’s most prominent filmmakers, including Yousri Nasrallah. Zohairy’s first short film, « Breathe Out » (« Zafir »), premiered at the 8th Dubai International Film Festival and won the Muhr Special Jury Prize for Short Films. His second short film, « The Aftermath of the Inauguration of the Public Toilet at Kilometre 375 », was the first Egyptian film to be selected for the Cinéfondation competition at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, the film went on to win several awards around the world.
His debut feature « Feathers » (2021) World Premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival (France) and won the Grand Prize of the 60th Critics Week.
