Jenny Morgan

Réalisatrice et militante sud-africaine.

Jenny MORGAN est une documentariste indépendante et une militante des droits de l'homme à temps partiel. Ces deux éléments se sont combinés dans certains de ses nombreux films. Après avoir quitté l'Afrique du Sud et déménagé à Londres, elle a soutenu la mobilisation anti-apartheid et a travaillé pour le mouvement de libération namibien, la SWAPO. Elle a réalisé et produit de nombreux films pour la télévision britannique, dont "Algeria : Dreaming of Democracy", "A State of Danger" (sur la première intifada palestinienne) et "When You Come Back Home "(sur la ville de Soweto).
Son film "Behind Enemy Lines : The Real Charlotte Grays" a été réalisé et produit pour Channel 4 (sur les femmes agents britanniques lors de la 2è Guerre Mondiale).

J'ai quitté l'Afrique du Sud alors qu'elle était encore un Etat d'apartheid ; j'ai d'abord travaillé à Londres pour le mouvement de libération namibien SWAPO ; puis j'ai commencé à faire des films pour la BBC. La Grande-Bretagne semblait un paradis quand j'y suis arrivé. Le mouvement des femmes était puissant ; les mouvements anticoloniaux et antiracistes étaient flamboyants ; et j'ai saisi l'occasion de réfléchir à ceci sur la télévision par la chaîne BBC.

Être une Freelance m'a emmené en Angola, à Porto Rico, en Colombie, en Algérie, au Malawi, en Chine, dans les Territoires palestiniens occupés et ailleurs.

J'ai fait des films sur les Windsors, les tabous menstruels, une équipe de football sud-africaine appelée Orlando Pirates, l'opéra à Istanbul, l'hystérectomie, l'expressionnisme abstrait, la bataille de Cable Street, et beaucoup d'autres sujets captivants et difficiles.

J'ai écrit pour des ONG comme Plan International et Amnesty International.

J'ai obtenu un diplôme avec mention très honorable en français et en anglais de l'Université du Natal, à Durban (Afrique du Sud), et un diplôme en langue et en littérature françaises de l'Université d'Aix-en-Provence (France).

South African documentary filmmaker and - human rights activist.

Jenny MORGAN is a freelance documentary filmmaker and a part-time human rights activist. These two elements have combined in some of her many films. After leaving apartheid South Africa and moving to London, she supported anti-apartheid mobilizing and worked for the Namibian liberation movement, SWAPO. She has directed and produced numerous films for British television, including "Algeria: Dreaming of Democracy", "A State of Danger" (about the first Palestinian intifada), and "When You Come Back Home "(on Soweto).
Her film about British women agents in World War II, "Behind Enemy Lines: The Real Charlotte Grays", was directed and produced for Channel 4.

OTHER BIO
I left South Africa when it was still an apartheid state; worked initially in London for the Namibian liberation movement SWAPO; then started making films for the BBC. Britain seemed like paradise when I first got here. The women's movement was roaring; anti-colonial and anti-racist movements were blazing; and I seized the chance to reflect some of this on BBC television.

Freelancing took me to Angola, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Algeria, Malawi, China, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and elsewhere.

I've made films about the Wonderful Windsors, menstrual taboos, a South African soccer team called Orlando Pirates, opera in Istanbul, hysterectomy, Abstract Expressionism, the Battle of Cable Street, and many other engrossing and challenging subjects.

Professionally I've written for NGOs like Plan International and Amnesty International.

I have a first-class Honours degree in French and English from what was the University of Natal, Durban, and a diploma in French language and literature from the University of Aix-en-Provence.
