Francois Knoetze

Francois Knoetze est un artiste de performance, un sculpteur et un cinéaste. Il est titulaire d'une licence en beaux-arts de l'université de Rhodes et d'une maîtrise en beaux-arts de l'école des beaux-arts Michaelis de l'Université du Cap Vert. Dans ses combinaisons sculpturales Mongo*, le synthétique est soudé à l'humain - mettant l'accent sur l'objectivation des personnes, à travers la personnification des objets.En 2015, Knoetze a figuré parmi les " 200 meilleurs jeunes Sud-Africains " du Mail & Guardian. Sa série Cape Mongo a fait partie du programme principal du Grahamstown National Arts Festival en 2015 et du Global Graduate Programme de Design Indaba 2016. Il a participé à des expositions collectives, telles que U/Tropia au Wiener Festwochen en Allemagne (2015), Slow Violence à la galerie d'art de l'université de Stellenbosch (2015) et Designing Futures au Lagos Photo Festival (2015).Son travail a également été présenté dans un certain nombre de festivals de cinéma locaux et internationaux, notamment le WNDX Festival of Moving Image 2015 (lauréat du prix du jury pour la meilleure œuvre internationale), le 17e Festival de Paris pour le cinéma différent et expérimental, Artvideo Koeln : Audiovisual Experiences à Cologne (2015), le Festival inaugural d'art vidéo d'Addis (2015), le 32e Festival du documentaire et de la vidéo de Kassel en Allemagne (2015), le Festival du film Usurp Zone5 à la Usurp Art Gallery & Studio de Londres (2015), le Festival international du film FILMIDEO à l'Index Art Center de Newark, New Jersey (2015) etOK. Video Film Festival en Indonésie (2015).En 2016, il a été choisi comme l'un des lauréats du programme Artist In Residence d'Africa Centre et a passé deux mois au Nafasi Art Center à Dar es Salaam, en Tanzanie, pour créer sa dernière œuvre The Great Circle. En 2017, il a participé à la résidence internationale d'artistes de l'OMI à New York.

Francois Knoetze is a performance artist, sculptor and filmmaker. He holds a BA Fine Arts degree from Rhodes University and an MFA from Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT.Knoetze retraces the life cycles of discarded objects and explores junctures between material and social histories.
