Il est né le 24 mai 1986, à Zurich, Suisse.

Après avoir renforcé ses compétences en écriture à la New York Film Academy en 2015, il obtient la bourse de la SSA (Société Suisse des Auteurs) en 2016 pour RETOUR EN ALEXANDRIE, son premier scénario de long-métrage de fiction. Les courts-métrages de Tamer ont été sélectionnés et récompensés par de nombreux festivals internationaux prestigieux tels que Palm Springs International ShortFest et Outfest Los Angeles.

Born in Zurich, Tamer Ruggli lived in Kinshasa, Riyadh and Vienna before returning to Switzerland to study at film school. In 2014 he won a grant to study screenwriting in New York.
With a Swiss father and an Egyptian mother, Tamer always grew up between both cultures, a richness that informs his short films and his forthcoming feature "The Cow's Skin".

Tamer Ruggli is a Swiss-Egyptian filmmaker who graduated from the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL). After intensifying his writing skills at the New York Film Academy in 2015, he was awarded the SSA Scholarship (Swiss Society of Authors) in 2016 for BACK TO ALEXANDRIA, his first feature-length fiction script. Tamer's short films have been selected and awarded by numerous prestigious international film festivals such as Palm Springs International ShortFest and Outfest Los Angeles.

The complexities of the bonds between mothers and daughters are brought to life by celebrated French diva Fanny Ardant and internationally awarded Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, who gets to show her acting chops here. Labaki plays Sue, a forty-something psychotherapist who returns from Switzerland to her native Egypt to mend bridges with her eccentric, aristocratic and now dying mother Fairouz (Ardant). During her journey, she is haunted by memories and mixed feelings, arguing with Fairouz's voice in her head as she seeks out the special places of her childhood and once again encounters the smells, sounds, colours and characters of her homeland.
