Salim Aggar est né le 21 juin 1968 à Alger.



Diplômé en lettres françaises, il a passé plus de 22 ans de sa carrière dans la presse algérienne. Journaliste dans les plus importants journaux du pays tel que L'Expression, Le Quotidien d'Oran ou encore Horizons, il avait entre-temps entamé une carrière de réalisateur en 1989 en signant son premier court-métrage en super 8 à l'âge de 21 ans, intitulé "Dieu a fait la montagne et l'homme a fait la ville".



Il réalisera ensuite plusieurs autres courts-métrages dans le même format dont le plus prolifique demeure un documentaire sur les enfants et la guerre intitulé Soldat à 13 ans. Dans un autre registre, il travailla comme assistant sur le moyen- métrage "Cousines" de Lyès Salem (César du meilleur court métrage en 2005) et dans plusieurs documentaires et participa la réalisation de spot publicitaire.



Il a rédigé plusieurs articles et thèses sur le cinéma algérien, tel que la revue sur " Les 40 ans du cinéma algérien" édité par l'Année de l'Algérie en France 2003, mais se consacra également dans la promotion du court métrage avec son association "A nous les écrans", dont il est président depuis 2002. Il sera le premier à lancer un siteweb dédiée au algérien cinéma. Avec cette association il lança également le premier festival de cinéma dans la capitale Algérienne : Les Journées Cinématographiques d'Alger (JCA).



Depuis 2001, il prépare la réalisation d'une série de documentaires sur le cinéma algérien : Le premier volet a été achevé en 2007 "Ça tourne à Alger", qui montre les difficultés des cinéastes algériens durant la période du terrorisme et qui fut présenté dans plusieurs festivals dans le monde: à San Francisco, à Cork en Irlande, à Amiens en France et au Festival du Documentaire d'Al Jazeera. En 2010, il a réalisé un deuxième documentaire intitulé "Paroles d'un prisonnier français de l'ALN", sur le témoignage d'un prisonnier français de la guerre d'Algérie. Ce documentaire produit par l'ENTV a été présenté au forum des images de Paris en 2012 et sélectionné dans plusieurs festivals : Amiens, au Prix méditerranéen du reportage et documentaire de Marseille en 2010, aux rencontres sur l'histoire et les archives de Ciné-mémoire de Marseille et aux rencontres cinématographiques internationales Henri Langlois à Paris en 2012.



Spécialiste du cinéma arabe et occidental, il réalise en 2017 un documentaire sur l'un des plus importants réalisateurs arabes, Youcef Chahine et sur ses relations avec l'Algérie : "Chahine, l'Algérie et le cinéma". Il conclut sa filmographie avec un documentaire tout aussi important "L'histoire du film La Bataille D'Alger" où il a retrouvé 50 ans après les principaux acteurs et techniciens algériens du film de Gillo Pontecorvo. Salim Aggar, qui est très actif dans le monde du cinéma, a publié plusieurs articles et contributions dans plusieurs quotidiens et revues et s'est imposé sur la scène médiatique comme un spécialiste incontournable dans le domaine du cinéma et de la télévision.



Depuis décembre 2018, il occupe le poste de directeur du "Centre Algérien de la Cinématographie" (CAC), qui gère notamment la "cinémathèque Algérienne". Depuis son arrivée à ce poste, il a lancé le site de la Cinémathèque Algérienne "www.cinematheque.dz", favorisant la prise en charge urgente des archives du cinéma algérien et étranger. Il termine actuellement "Errissala, l'histoire d'un film sur l'Islam" son premier livre et le résultat d'une enquête qui a duré trois ans.



Enfin, il finalise le montage d'un sixième documentaire sur le cinéma intitulé "La caméra et le fusil", qui revisitera le cinéma de la guerre d'Algérie à travers les caméras des cinéastes français et algériens.

Salim Aggar was born on June 21, 1968 in Algiers.



A graduate in French literature, he spent more than 22 years of his career in the Algerian press. Journalist in the country's most important newspapers such as L'Expression, Le Quotidien d'Oran and Horizons, he had in the meantime started a career as a director in 1989 by signing his first short film in super 8 at the age of 21 years old, entitled "God made the mountain and man made the city".



He will then direct several other short films in the same format, the most prolific of which remains a documentary on children and war entitled Soldat à 13 ans. In another register, he worked as an assistant on the medium-length film "Cousins" by Lyès Salem (César for best short film in 2005) and in several documentaries and participated in the production of advertising spots.



He wrote several articles and theses on Algerian cinema, such as the review on "The 40 years of Algerian cinema" published by the Year of Algeria in France 2003, but also devoted himself to the promotion of short films with his association “To us the screens”, of which he has been president since 2002. He will be the first to launch a website dedicated to Algerian cinema. With this association he also launched the first film festival in the Algerian capital: The Algiers Cinematographic Days (JCA).



Since 2001, he has been preparing the production of a series of documentaries on Algerian cinema: The first part was completed in 2007 "It turns in Algiers", which shows the difficulties of Algerian filmmakers during the period of terrorism and which was presented in several festivals around the world: in San Francisco, Cork in Ireland, Amiens in France and the Al Jazeera Documentary Festival. In 2010, he made a second documentary entitled "Words of a French ALN Prisoner", on the testimony of a French prisoner of the Algerian War. This documentary produced by ENTV was presented at the Paris Images Forum in 2012 and selected in several festivals: Amiens, at the Mediterranean Prize for Reporting and Documentary in Marseille in 2010, at meetings on the history and archives of Ciné- memory of Marseille and at the Henri Langlois international cinematographic meetings in Paris in 2012.



A specialist in Arab and Western cinema, in 2017 he directed a documentary on one of the most important Arab directors, Youcef Chahine and on his relations with Algeria: "Chahine, Algeria and cinema". He concludes his filmography with an equally important documentary "The History of the Film The Battle of Algiers" where he found 50 years later the main Algerian actors and technicians of Gillo Pontecorvo's film. Salim Aggar, who is very active in the world of cinema, has published several articles and contributions in several daily newspapers and magazines and has established himself on the media scene as an essential specialist in the field of cinema and television.



Since December 2018, he has held the position of director of the “Algerian Cinema Center” (CAC), which notably manages the “Algerian Cinematheque”. Since his arrival in this position, he launched the site of the Algerian Cinematheque "www.cinematheque.dz", promoting the urgent management of the archives of Algerian and foreign cinema. He is currently finishing "Errissala, the story of a film on Islam", his first book and the result of an investigation which lasted three years.



Finally, he is finalizing the editing of a sixth documentary on cinema entitled "The camera and the rifle", which will revisit the cinema of the Algerian war through the cameras of French and Algerian filmmakers.
