INDI FILM develops, produces and co-produces high quality documentaries and feature films and works successfully with young talents as well as established authors. Our focus is on creative documentaries demanding in both content and style. With our documentaries we don’t want to report about, but experience matters of different regions, cultures, and perspectives.
Founded in 2001, based in Stuttgart and Berlin INDI FILM has produced over 20 feature length documentaries some of which were international co-productions. We have worked with some of the top TV broadcasters in Germany like ARD, ZDF, SWR, RBB, WDR, 3SAT, and ARTE. Several productions have been released in cinemas and were awarded at international film festivals. Latest documentaries include One Who Set Forth – Wim Wender’s Early Years, by Marcel Wehn, Berlinale 2007, Bastion of Sin, by Thomas Lauterbach, winner of Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig 2008 and Neukölln Unlimited, by Agostino Imondi and Dietmar Ratsch, winner of Crystal Bear at Berlinale 2010 and nominated for the German Critics Award 2010.
In 2004 producer and co-founder Arek Gielnik participated in the leading European development programme EAVE, which formed the foundation for the development of feature films. Currently, INDI FILM has four promising feature films in development, one of them being « Still Memories » in co-production with Zephyr Films London.
In 2010 the company was awarded slate funding by the EU MEDIA programme.
INDI FILM is a member of the German Producers Alliance – Film & Television.
Team
Managing Director/ Producer AREK GIELNIK graduated from Stuttgart Media University (HdM) in the year 2000. During his studies as well as after his graduation as a master of audio-visual media, he was employed as a Unit Production Manager with the German broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (SWR). With INDI FILM Arek Gielnik as the executive / delegate producer is responsible for project-development, -financing and production issues.
Managing Director / Author and Director DIETMAR RATSCH worked eight years as an independent cinematographer before he graduated from Baden-Württemberg Film Academy as a director of documentary film. With INDI FILM Dietmar Ratsch manages the post-Production department. Apart from that he directs his own documentaries within our portfolio and contributes creatively to projects of other clients as a director of photography and/ or script advisor.
Creative Producer SONIA OTTO joined the company in 2002. She is in charge of documentary development and project monitoring. Sonia Otto is a graduate of Cultural Sciences from the Humboldt University Berlin and of audio-visual Communication in Seville, Spain. She worked as an independent author and assistant director on several shorts and documentaries.IRIS ZINKE is Head of Acounting Department at INDI FILM since 2008
BENJAMIN CÖLLE is Producer at INDI FILM since 2010.
SARA KRIEBEL is Post Production Supervisor at INDI FILM since 2010.

INDI FILM entwickelt und produziert qualitativ hochwertige Dokumentar- und Spielfilme für Kino und TV, sowie crossmediale Formate. Die Projekte von INDI FILM sind zugleich spannend und informativ, zugänglich und sehr gut recherchiert, sowie inhaltlich und stilistisch anspruchsvoll. Vielfach ausgezeichnet (Grimme-Preis, Goldene Taube, Gläserner Bär, Deutscher Fernsehpreis, u.a.) und erfolgreich in der Kino- und TV-Auswertung, bewegen die Filme und crossmedialen Formate von INDI FILM ihr Publikum und regen gesellschaftliche Debatten an.
Die Wurzeln von INDI FILM liegen in dem von den Geschäftsführern Dietmar Ratsch und Arek Gielnik gemeinsam hergestellten Dokumentarfilm „Eislimonade für Hong Li »aus dem Jahr 1999/2000. Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss des Filmprojektes, das 2001 auf der Berlinale seine Premiere feierte, gründeten sie im Juli 2001 in Ludwigsburg die INDI FILM GmbH. Um die bestehenden Kontakte der Firma zu erhalten und weiter auszubauen, eröffnete INDI FILM 2006 eine Zweigstelle in Berlin. Seit 2011 befindet sich der Hauptsitz des Unternehmens in Stuttgart.
