About us
Formed in partnership between Hanan Kattan and Shamim Sarif, Enlightenment Productions is dedicated to producing entertaining independent feature films of integrity and individuality. The principals are material-driven, and believe that all great movies begin with a great script.
Enlightenment Productions aims to harness the power of film to tell stories that push boundaries, challenge perceptions and that cause an audience to consider, even as they are immersed in being entertained.
Enlightenment Productions- headquarters are based in London. Recently they opened their Los Angeles office headed by Aida Kattan.
Through Enlightenment Productions, Hanan has produced two feature length films in the span of three years: 1950s South African drama/love story The World Unseen and contemporary urban romantic comedy I Can’t Think Straight. The World Unseen has garnered both audience and critical acclaim at film festivals across the globe and received several important awards including the Silver Medal at the Verzaubert Film Festival and the Audience Award for Best Fiction Feature at the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Writer/Director Shamim Sarif received the World Cinema Best Director award for the film at the Phoenix Film Festival. Both recently finished romantic comedy I Can’t Think Straight and The World Unseen have been successfully released theatrically in North American Cinemas via US distributor Regent Releasing.
Both films are adaptation of Shamim’s own novels and star actresses Lisa Ray (her performance in the Academy Award-nominated film Water earned her the Best Actress Award from the Vancouver Film Critics) and Sheetal Sheth.
Enlightenment Productions have recently released the first edition of the novel, I Can’t Think Straight and a movie edition of The World Unseen book.
Enlightenment Records, the newly created soundtrack publishing section, is devoted to supporting young musicians. They have recently released the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for the movie I Can’t Think Straight and have produced two music videos with Leonie Casanova to accompany the debut singles from her first album, out later this year.
Enlightenment Productions is currently developing two new film projects, The Dreaming Spires and Despite the Falling Snow, as well as developing a TV series of I Can’t Think Straight.

ENLIGHTENMENT FILMS is the sales and distribution arm of Enlightenment Productions, launched at the Cannes Film Festival 2008 to represent world rights for I Can’t Think Straight and The World Unseen as well as any future film productions of the company and to distribute the same titles in the United Kingdom.
