The residents of Kraaifontein are gearing up for their first Community Festival, presented by the Cape Town Festival, on Saturday 21 April 2012 at Eikendal Primary School in Kraaifontein.
The primary objective of the Cape Town Festival is to contribute to the rebuilding of communities, as well as to reinforce and celebrate a culture of unity within the community. The performance stage will give a platform to the wealth of artistic talent in the community and thereby promote the importance of arts and culture as a means to promote tolerance and diversity.
Cape Town Festival has partnered with the Amy Biehl Foundation, which will provide Peer Education sessions as well as facilitating artistic activities in youth-focussed an educational Workshop Programme, themed « Leadership, Diversity and Tolerance ».
The four-hour Youth Workshop Programme, takes place on the morning from 9am until 12pm, attended by a group of approximately 200 participating learners from various primary schools in Kuils River.
The Kraaifontein Community Festival will see new and upcoming local talent on stage in a variety of performances that have been choreographed by members of the community. Stand-up comedian Wayne McKay will add his special blend of uniquely Cape Town humour to the proceedings.
A host of sports activities and jumping castles hosted by ‘Come and Play’ and food stalls are among the array of planned festivities for the whole family. Special performances by local jazz band, Blackcurrant and all-time favourites, The Rockets will round of what promises to be a great day of fun and entertainment.
The Kraaifontein Community Festival is hosted by Cape Town Festival and supported by the City of Cape Town, Provincial Government of the Western Cape, Cape Town International Airport and the HCI Foundation.
