DOCUBOX is an East African Documentary Film Fund supported by the Ford Foundation.

It is located at Shalom House, Nairobi, Kenya.

Docubox exists to enable talented, driven, focused and accountable East African artists to produce unique films that unearth new realities and cross trans-national boundaries. Through training, development and production grants, screenings, and networking events for people who love documentary films, docubox works to promote East African artists and share their unique stories with the world.



They believe that talented, driven, focused and accountable filmmakers are the mirror that East Africa needs to see itself more clearly. Yet support for creative documentary film in the region is virtually non-existent. Although they believe both the government and local broadcasters should support and commission great films – as they do in every country in the world with a culture of well made and influential films – they’d like to get the ball rolling by supporting driven filmmakers to achieve creative and technical excellence. Because there can never too many stories, nor too much support for great storytelling.
