Le film suit le fleuve Niger, long de 4 184 kilométres, de sa source en Guinée en passant par le Mali, le Niger et le Benin jusqu’au Nigéria. C’est une ode passionnée au fleuve, les cultures nées sur ses rives et son rôle dans l’histoire africaine, avec un commentaire lyrique.
