Les Kotoko vivent dans une des nombreuses principautés du Tchad : Gaoui. Ils sont reconnus comme étant plus jardiniers que paysans et cultivent essentiellement les fruits et légumes. Ils possèdent deux types d'architecture dont une provenant de l'étranger. Ce sont de bons maçons et ils fabriquent leurs cases à base de terre et de paille. Dans chacune d'entre elles, il y a un étage pour les chambres et un poteau central pour soutenir la toiture. La construction ne prend que quelques jours. L'homme est chargé de la bâtir mais c'est la femme qui s'occupe de la finition.

The Kotokos live in one of the many principalities of Chad: Gaoui. They are known for being gardeners rather than herders and grow mainly fruits and vegetables. They master two kinds of architectures, including one that isn't vernacular. They are great builders and build their huts with clay and straw. Each hut has a second floor where the bedrooms are as well as a central pilar supporting the roof. The building process only takes a few days. Men are in charge of the construction but women are taking care of all the finishing touches.
