Ferrouze (30 ans), femme de ménage immigrée du Maghreb, vit une histoire d’amour difficile avec Abdel, son mari, un intellectuel au chômage qu’elle a rejoint en France dix ans auparavant. Sur le chemin de son travail, dans le bus qu’elle prend tous les matins, Ferrouze rencontre Mazia, une jeune beur (Algérienne née en France, abusivement appelée « immigrée de la seconde génération »). Cette jeune fille la fascine par sa beauté et son indépendance. Ferrouze assistera à la naissance d’une histoire d’amour ente Mazia et Stéphane, l’histoire vécue ou rêvée, peu importe. Cette histoire romantique l’amènera à prendre une décision par rapport à sa propre vie.

Ten years ago, Ferrouze (30) immigrated to France from North Africa to be with her husband, Abdel. She works as a maid and life with Abdel, an unemployed intellectual, is difficult.
One day in the bus on the way to work, Ferrouze meets Mazia, a young « beur » (a French term referring to French-born children of North African immigrants). Mazia’s confidence and independence fascinate Ferrouze. Ferrouze watches as a romance develops between Mazia and Stephane, a romance which pushes Ferrouze to make a hard choice in her own life…
