Amina, jeune fille d’origine swahili, se voit forcée par son père cupide d’épouser un riche vieillard séropositif. Alors qu’elle nourrissait de folles ambitions, elle est contrainte d’abandonner ses études pour prendre soin de son mari malade, alors que sa belle-famille la rejette. A la mort du vieil homme, ses enfants jettent Amina à la rue.

Fimbo ya Baba est le premier film rural tourné en Pangani avec des comédiens et des moyens locaux. C’est également le premier long métrage en Kiswahili.

In a powerful way the film shows the plight of young women in rural Tanzania that are caused by socio-cultural norms and practices so deeply rooted in the local communities and cultures.

Fimbo ya Baba is the first rural film produced by the Pangani-based NGO UZIKWASA in collaboration with Dr. Augustin Hatar of the University of Dar es Salaam, and Nkwabi Nghangasamala of the Bagamoyo College of Arts.

It was directed by Chande Omar, who is also the director of Television Zanzibar.
