Inspiré de l’auteur américain Paul Bowles, ce conte lyrique – sur un jeune marocain qui fuit son village pour rejoindre Marrakech et retrouver un frère perdu – fait voir la pauvreté, le combat magique et quotidien des enfants de la rue à Marrakech. C’est une histoire de la jeunesse abandonnée d’Afrique du Nord, partagée entre les traditions passées et les valeurs consuméristes de l’Occident..

Le titre Marrakech Inshallah se refère au personnage principal, Aziz, et son espoir que la volonté de Dieu réalisera son rêve de quitter son village des montagnes pour une meilleure vie dans la vie de Marrakech.
Tourné en arabe et berbère, en utilisant des acteurs locaux, le film de 90 minute se déroule dans les villes marocaines de Marrakech, Rich, et Essouaira. Le co-réalisateur américain Steffen Pierce (avec son frère Christian) décrit le film comme « une histoire classique d’un jeune homme qui cherche à améliorer sa vie dans une grande ville africain, mais les choses bien sûr ne se passent pas forcément comme il le souhaite. »

In Marrakech Inshallah the film’s title refers to the main character Aziz and his hope that-God willing he will realize his dream of leaving his mountain village for a better life in the city of Marrakech.
Shot in Arabic and Berber and using local actors, the 90-minute movie was filmed in the Moroccan cities of Marrakech, Rich, and Essouaira by American director Steffen Pierce who describes the film as « the classic story of young men looking for better lives in a bigger city in Africa, but things of course don’t work out. »

Inspired by American author Paul Bowles, this lyrical tale about a Moroccan boy who runs away to Marrakech to find a lost brother draws the viewer into the poverty, magic and daily struggle of Marrakech’s street kids. This is a story of North Africa’s abandoned youth, torn between the traditions of the past and encroaching Western consumer values.
