Sami vit à Addis-Abeba, en Éthiopie. Cinquantenaire érudit, il est en train d’achever l’œuvre de sa vie : la traduction en amharique d’une anthologie de la mythologie grecque. Mais Sami n’a pas de domicile fixe et il doit avant tout survivre dans la mégalopole. Tantôt aidé par des mécènes, hébergé et nourri par des amis, tantôt contraint à la mendicité, Sami vogue sans relâche sur les eaux agitées d’Addis. Sa nouvelle obsession est de parvenir à faire publier son travail, afin de partager avec ses concitoyens les intrigues des Dieux de l’Olympe, les amours de Zeus et de Sémélé, le face à face fatal de Diana et d’Actéon… Mais dans la jungle éditoriale, la gêne économique et les tempêtes politiques qui agitent l’Éthiopie actuelle, qui pourrait s’intéresser à ce projet titanesque ? Après dix-neuf années de labeur solitaire, parviendra-t-il enfin au bout de son entreprise ?

In Ethiopia’s labyrinthine capital Addis Ababa, Sami spent long 19 years to translate Greek and Roman myths on an ancient laptop to Amharic, the Ethiopian official language. Director follows a man pursuing his inexplicable dreams in the service of literature. After years of solitary labor, will he succeed in getting his manuscript published in modern-day Ethiopia? A true bibliophile’s gem of a film.
