L’Arche est une maison d’édition française créée en 1949 par Robert Voisin. Si les premiers titres tentent de rendre familiers à un large public des domaines à l’époque surtout réservés aux spécialistes, telles la psychanalyse, la philosophie ou encore l’esthétique, L’Arche se tourne rapidement vers le théâtre : sont fondées une collection répertoriant les pièces jouées au Théâtre National Populaire de Jean Vilar ainsi que la fameuse revue Théâtre populaire ; en 1954, L’Arche convient avec Bertolt Brecht d’une publication française de son œuvre.

The French publishing house L’Arche was established by Robert Voisin in 1949. Its first publications aimed to introduce the public to subjects previously available only to specialists, such as psychoanalysis, philosophy and aesthetics, but L’Arche’s list soon included theatre, both through its contribution to the early development of « Théâtre populaire » – movement for « opening » the French theatre to a « broader » public and to enhance its quality – and through its agreement with Bertolt Brecht in 1954 to publish the author’s work in French.
