Ce natif de Grenade a fait une entrée en fanfare dans l’arène du Calypso en 1956, en remportant la même année le Calypso Monarch (la plus grande distinction du Calypso), et la Road March (la chanson la plus jouée durant le carnaval). Depuis il a remporté huit fois chacun de ces titres et s’est même permis de se retirer de la compétition tant il dominait la concurrence. Le plus grand Calypsonien vivant, et la plus grande figure du genre avec Lord Kitchener, disparu en 2000.

Originally from Grenada, the sparrow made his triumphant entry onto the Calypso stage in 1956, winning in one clean sweep both the Calypso Monarch title (Calypso’s highest honnour), and the Road March competition (the song played the most by the music trucks during carnival). He went on to win the titles eight more times,and even withdrew from the compétition to give other singers a chance! He is the greatest living calypsonian , and one genre’s leading figures, along with lord Kitchener,who passed away in 2000.
