Cheb Akil (en Arabe : الشاب عقيل), de son vrai nom Akil Abdelkader (en arabe : عقيل عبد القادر), né le 27 juin 1974 à Khemis Miliana en Algérie et mort le 14 juin 2013 à Tanger au Maroc des suites d’un accident de la route, est un chanteur et compositeur Algérien de raï.
Akil est né à Khemis Miliana, une ville moyenne, à mi-chemin entre Alger et Oran, double héritière d'un patrimoine chaâbi algérois et d'un raï à l'accent rural. Petit, il écoute ses aînés Khaled et Mami avant de s'enticher du raï love de Cheb Hasni et passe le plus clair de son temps à pousser la chanson et à susciter l'admiration de son entourage.
Il a à peine 13 ans quand il est sollicité par un producteur pour enregistrer une première cassette. C'est Abdelkader Cassidy, qui fut le pygmalion de tous les artistes raï des années 80 et 90 qui lui donnera sa chance en lui faisant graver tout un album de reprises, histoire de le plier à la coutume oranaise qui lance les nouveaux talents à coups de titres déjà éprouvés. C'est par sa voix chaude et nuancée que, Akil fera la différence. Tête bien faite et surtout tête bien pleine d'ouverture et d'inventivité (il signe lui-même tous les arrangements).
Le Cheb se distingue très vite, en 1989, par un morceau percutant, intitulé " Ne me quitte pas Omri " et intégré dans une compilation, que Cheb Bilal reprendra plus tard alors qu'il n'interprète que ses propres chansons. Et c'est en 1995 qu'il rejoindra sur le podium des valeurs confirmées du raï resté au pays comme Cheb Abdou ou Chaba Kheira. En effet, le titre " Tahasdou oula T'ghirou " (envieux ou jaloux) fut un gros succès maghrébin, le fait connaître grâce à plus de 100 000 albums vendus.
