Alsény Solo Cherif commence sa carrière dans le ballet étudiant de Conakry.
En 1980 il intègre le théâtre national d’enfants, dirigé par l’épouse du président Sékou Touré.
Dans cet ensemble il suit pendant cinq ans une solide formation de djembefola. Son style énergique, enjoué et son originalité lui permettront en 1985 d’être sélectionné dans le ballet préfectoral de Conakry sous la direction de Sekouba Camara dit Wasterio avec lequel il participe à une tournée nationale organisée par le gouvernement Guinéen.
À 20 ans Alseny Solo Cherif est le premier soliste de djembé du groupe Tempo Rythmique. Il se produit sur scène avec l’ensemble traditionnel Mandeng Gnakha.
En 1989 invités à Paris, ils représentent la Guinée, à l’occasion du bicentenaire de la révolution française, sous la direction de Jean-Paul Goude.
En 1990, Tempo Rythmique se transforme en Wassa.
Un premier album est enregistré suivi d’une tournée mondiale en 1992, Africa Oye : Japon, Australie, Royaume-Uni, États-Unis.
En 1994, « Wassa » devient « Wofa ».
Les tournées internationales et l’enregistrement de deux albums entre 1994 et 1997 couronnent le succès des artistes. Entre ses tournées internationales, Alseny ‘Solo’ accompagne différents artistes internationaux en Guinée, comme Salif Keita, Rey Lema, Fode Kouyate, Sekouba Kandia Kouyate. 1997, il s’installe en France où il fonde le groupe Djembé. Reconnu comme un grand maître africain il compte parmi les plus grands percussionnistes Guinéen.
Automne 2006, création de l’association wombere.
Printemps 2007, il enregistre son album « Etat de siège » à Kagbelen, à 50km de Conakry.
Alsény Solo Cherif est souvent sollicité pour accompagner des stages et est très apprécié des « Guinées Faré » ou danse de femmes car il excelle au marquage des pas de danse. Membre du groupe Folifö dont la plupart des artistes de la formation résident en Guinée il s’est produit à Marciac en 2008 et a contribué au programme pédagogique de la ville auprès de jeunes musiciens collégiens.
Un projet filmé par le réalisateur Laurent Chevallier, en France et en Guinée, échange entre les artistes de Fölifö et les collégiens (Expérience africaine).
Automne 2008 : Création de La Cie Des Sorciers.
En 2009, il participe au projet pédagogique « Musitéranée » à Graulhet avec l’artiste Yaki.

avec des artistes locaux et notamment des artistes de Tinafan du Centre National d’Arts Acrobatiques Keita Fotéba afin de présenter un spectacle composé de musique , danse et cirque de Guinée

Alsény Solo Cherif starts his career in the ballet school of Conakry le ballet étudiant de Conakry. In 1980, he started with the national theatre for children directed by the wife of President Sékou Touré. His energetic style, motivated and his originality meant he was selected in 1985 into Conakry’s ballet under the direction of Sekouba Camara called Wasterio with whom he participated in the national tour organised by the Guinean government.
When he was 20, Alseny Solo Cherif was the first djembe soloist of the band Tempo Rythmique. He plays on stage with the traditionnal ensemble Mandeng Gnakha.
In 1989, invited in Paris, they represent Guinea, at the occasion of the French Revolution bicentanary, under the direction of Jean-Paul Goude.
In 1990, Tempo Rythmique becomes Wassa.
A first album is recorded, followed by a world Tour.
