Maïmouna Doucouré

Après des études de Biologie, Maïmouna se lance dans le cinéma suite à un concours de scénario qui lui permet de réaliser un premier film autoproduit. Elle écrit ensuite Maman(s), une histoire à hauteur d’enfant, avec un soupçon autobiographique. Produit par Bien ou Bien Productions, le film est sélectionné dans près de 200 festivals à travers le monde et remporte plus de 60 prix, dont le grand prix au festival de Toronto 2015, le prix international au festival de Sundance 2016, ainsi que le César 2017 du meilleur court-métrage en France.
En 2019, Maïmouna a été récompensée par le Gold Fellowship Award par l’Académie des Oscars. Maïmouna sortira en France avec Bac Films, son
premier long-métrage Mignonnes (Cuties), qui aborde le thème de l’hypersexualisation des pré-adolescentes. Un film qui a reçu en Janvier le Prix de la Meilleure Réalisation au Festival de Sundance 2020 ainsi que la Mention Spéciale du Jury International à la Berlinale 2020 (section Génération). Le film sort en France en salles le 19 août 2020 et sur Netflix.

After studying biology, DOUCOURÉ took her first professional steps as a filmmaker with her short film Maman(s), selected in nearly 200 festivals and winner of more than 60 awards in festivals around the globe, including the International Fiction Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Best Short Film at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the 2017 César Award for Best Short Film. In 2019, Doucouré was granted the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women. Her first feature (2019) is Cuties (Mignonnes), award winning Special Mention of the Jury (Generation Kplus, at 70t Berlinale, 2020) and Directing Award: World Cinema Dramatic (2020 Sundance Film Festival).

She won the Short Cuts Award for Best Short Film at Toronto Film Festival 2015 and the Short Film Jury Award: International Fiction – at Sundance Film Festival 2016, among others, for her second short Maman(s). « For its daring and revelatory exploration of a family’s dysfunction and upheaval through the eyes of a child and its refusal to cast characters as villains but rather as complex, and highly conflicted, human beings the jury selects Maman(s). The jury also wanted to acknowledge the vulnerable, defiant performance of the gifted Sokhna Diallo. », remarked the Short Cuts jury at Toronto. The award offers a ,000 cash prize.
