Réalisateur, scénariste, monteur et producteur sud-africain.
Il est né à Johannesburg (Afrique du Sud). Il a étudié l’actorat et le cinéma à l’Université de Witwatersrand.
Son premier long métrage « Dollars And White Pipes » (produit par Videovision Entertainment) a eu le Prix du Meilleur Réalisateur du Premier Film au Pan African Film Festival de Los Angeles en Février 2006.
On lui doit aussi « Spud » (2010) adapté du roman éponyme de John van de Ruit, ainsi que Spud 2: The Madness Continues (Spud 2: La folie continue) (2013) et iNumber Number (2013).

Donovan was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he studied drama and film at WITS University, winning the Edgar Bold Award for the top film student and the class medal for media studies.
He has worked in the industry since 1992, directing, writing and editing drama, corporate, broadcast, commercials, music videos and documentaries. Awards include two Loerie finalists, a Grand Prix for the YFM launch Campaign, a Bronze for his first short film « Prickly Heat » (directed and edited), including awards for editing and performance and a Silver for his corporate drama « Plato’s Cave » (directed, wrote and edited).
From 1998-2000 he directed live multicam shows including over a hundred episodes of « Gladiators » and « Who Wants to be a Millionaire ». In partnership with other producers he has directed and produced Gladiators locally and in Nigeria, produced and directed for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) talk show « Invent Your Self », live shows, pageants, corporates and commercials.
In 2002 his second short film « Dead End » (wrote, directed, edited), was produced by Anant Singh and won Best Short Film at the Durban International Film Festival and was selected for the Mind Ignite short film series in Australia. Also in 2002 Donovan won Best Music Video Director at the South African Music Awards for his music video, « Ghetto Scandelous », by Zola.
In 2003 he directed and wrote for the second series of the successful drama « Tsha Tsha » for SABC 1 and Curious Pictures. Donovan also directed and edited for the TV series « Great South Africans ».
He has recently completed directing the TV film « The Good Fight » for Curious Pictures and SABC 2. He regularly directs multicamera live shoots, including the 2002-2004 « Kora All Africa Music Awards ».
In 2005 Donovan completed his first full length feature film, « Dollars and White Pipes » (Wrote, Directed and Edited), produced by Anant Singh, which had its world debut at the Montreal Film Festival and recently won Best Director, First Feature at the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles.
He is presently in development on his second feature film provisionally titled « Sangoma », which he is writing/directing for producer Anant Singh.
