Kofi Awoonor

Kofi Awoonor est né le 13 mars 1935 à Wheta (actuel Ghana, alors Gold Coast, Côte-de-l'Or), tué le 21 septembre 2013 à Nairobi dans une attaque armée au centre commercial Westgate à Nairobi, au Kenya, par l'Al-Shabaab, un groupe djihadiste, était un écrivain, poète et diplomate ghanéen.

Kofi Awoonor (13 March 1935 - 21 September 2013) was a Ghanaian poet and author whose work combined the poetic traditions of his native Ewe people and contemporary and religious symbolism to depict Africa during decolonization. He started writing under the name George Awoonor-Williams.

Professor Awoonor was among those who were killed in the September 2013 attack at Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nacido George Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor Williams, su obra combina las tradiciones poéticas de su nativo pueblo ewe y el simbolismo contemporáneo y religioso para representar África durante la descolonización. Empezó a escribir con el nombre de George Awoonor Williams. El profesor Kofi Awoonor fue una de las víctimas que murieron el 21 de septiembre de 2013 en un ataque terrorista en el centro comercial de Westgate en Nairobi, Kenia, por el grupo militante Al-Shabaab
