PHAN Dang Di est né en 1976 à Nghe An au Vietnam.
Après son diplôme de l’Université de Cinéma et Théâtre de Hanoi, il réalise ses premiers films.
BI, n’aie pas peur ! (Bi, đừng sợ !) est son premier long-métrage. Ce film est sorti au Vietnam en 2011 dans une version coupée.
En 2008, son court-métrage When I am 20 (Khi Tôi 20) a été sélectionné au festival de Venise. En 2005, son court-métrage (Sen) reçoit le Prix spécial du Vietnam National Short Feature Film Festival, il est également sélectionné au Festival de Clermont-Ferrand.
Il est aussi scénariste du film Vertiges (Chơi vơi) du réalisateur Bui Thac Chuyen, sorti en France en 2010, prix FIPRESCI à la 66ème Mostra de Venise.
Il enseigne actuellement l’histoire du cinema et l’écriture de scénarios à l’Université nationale de Hanoi. Il appartient au renouveau du cinéma vietnamien.
Pères, fils et autres histoires (2015) est son deuxième long-métrage.

Born in 1976 in Vietnam, Phan Dang Di teaches screenwriting at Hanoi National University. He graduated from Hanoi University of Cinema and Theatre. His first feature film, BI, DON’T BE AFRAID! (2010) won both the ACID and SACD Awards at Cannes and was screened in 50 international film festivals. His short, WHEN I AM 20 (2006) screened in competition at Venice 2008. His other short, LOTUS (2005), won a Special Award at the Vietnam National Short FFF and was selected at Clermont-Ferrand. He wrote the screenplay for the feature ADRIFT (2009) by Bui Thac Chuyen, which won the FIPRESCI Award in Venice.
BIOGRAPHY
Director Phan Dang Di graduated from Faculty of Screenwriting, Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema. He is one of the pioneers in independent filmmaking movement in Vietnam. Phan Dang Di has always wanted to develop another class of young directors to create a « new wave » in Vietnamese cinema.
Phan Dang Di started his movie career with 2 short films: « When I’m 20″ (2006) and « Lotus » (2005), both were chosen to participate in many prestigious film festivals like Clermont Ferrand and Venice. The film « Choi voi », directed by Bui Thac Chuyen, with script written by Phan Dang Di, won the prize FIPRESC at Venice Film Festival in 2009. His first long-feature movie titled « Bi, dung so! » (2009) was screened in many big film festivals around the world and won many awards, among which are 2 prestigious prizes of Cannes Film Festival 2010. Currently, he is cooperating with director Nguyen Hoang Diep in making « Flapping in the middle of nowhere » and at the same time developing his second long-feature movie called « Father, son and… »

Sinh năm 1976, Phan Đăng Di là một trong những nhà làm phim trẻ đầy triển vọng của điện ảnh Việt Nam. Năm 18 tuổi, anh thi đỗ vào trường Đại học sân khấu điện ảnh Hà Nội. Vào nghề từ vị trí của một công chức Cục điện ảnh rồi thành nhà làm phim tự do, Phan Đăng Di từng bước khẳng định tên tuổi cũng như phong cách làm phim qua mỗi tác phẩm.
TIỂU SỬ
Đạo diễn Phan Đăng Di tốt nghiệp Khoa Biên kịch, Trường Đại học Sân khấu Điện ảnh Hà Nội. Anh là một trong những người tiên phong trong phòng trào làm phim độc lập ở Việt Nam. Phan Đăng Di luôn mong muốn phát triển một đội ngũ đạo diễn trẻ để tạo nên « làn sóng mới » trong điện ảnh Việt Nam.
Phan Đăng Di bắt đầu sự nghiệp đạo diễn bằng hai phim ngắn là Khi Tôi Hai Mươi (2006) và Sen (2005), hai bộ phim đã được lựa chọn tham dự những liên hoan phim uy tín như Clermont Ferrand và Venise. Kịch bản phim Chơi Vơi (Đạo diễn Bùi Thạc Chyên) do anh viết đã giành giải thưởng FIPRESC tại Liên hoan phim Venise năm 2009. Bộ phim truyện dài đầu tay của Phan Đăng Di với nhan đề Bi, đừng sợ! (2009) đã được trình chiếu tại hàng chục liên hoan phim lớn trên thế giới và giành được rất nhiều giải thưởng, trong đó có hai giải thưởng uy tín tại Liên hoan phim Cannes năm 2010. Hiện tại anh đang bắt tay sản xuất bộ phim truyện đầu tay của đạo diễn Nguyễn Hoàng Điệp với tựa đề Đập cánh giữa không trung, đồng thời cũng đang triển khai dự án phim dài thứ 2 của anh mang tên « Cha, con và… »
