Photographe et vidéaste franco-marocaine.

Leila Alaoui est née le 10 juillet 1982 à Paris (France). Elle est morte le 18 janvier 2016 à Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) suite aux blessures subies lors des attaques perpétrées par des terroristes dans la capitale burkinabèe.
Elle y était de passage, dans le cadre d’une mission pour Amnesty International.
Sur Twitter, Fleur Pellerin, la ministre française de la Culture a exprimé son émotion : « Bouleversée que #LeilaAlaoui, jeune et talentueuse photographe franco-marocaine, ait succombé ce soir à ses blessures à Ouagadougou ».



BIOGRAPHIE OFFICIELLE
Photographe et vidéaste franco-marocaine née en 1982, Leila Alaoui a étudié la photographie à l’université de la ville de New-York. Son travail explore la construction d’identité, les diversités culturelles et la migration dans l’espace méditerranéen. Elle utilise la photographie et l’art vidéo pour exprimer des réalités sociales à travers un langage visuel qui se situe aux limites du documentaire et des arts plastiques.

Son travail est exposé internationalement depuis 2009 (Art Dubai, l’Institut du Monde Arabe et la Maison Européenne de la Photographie à Paris) et ses photographies publiées dans de nombreux journaux et magazines, y compris le New York Times et Vogue. Elle vit et travaille aujourd’hui entre Marrakech et Beyrouth.

OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY
Leila Alaoui is a French-Moroccan photographer and video artist whose experiences across different cultural and geographic environments inform her critical and creative practice. Born in Paris in 1982, she studied photography at the City University of New York before spending time in Morocco and Lebanon. Her work explores the construction of identity and cultural diversity, often through the prism of the migration stories that intersect the contemporary Mediterranean. Her images express social realities using a visual language that combines the narrative depth of documentary storytelling and the aesthetic sensibilities of fine art.

Her work has been exhibited internationally since 2009, including at the Institut du Monde Arabe, Art Dubai and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, and has been published in newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times and Vogue. Today she lives and works between Marrakech and Beirut.
