Sophie FIENNES est née à Suffolk (Angleterre), et a étudié au Chelsea College of Art and Design. Elle a travaillé comme régisseur des extérieurs pour le cinéastes Peter Greenaway et plus tard il a réalisé les longs métrages documentaires The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema (2006), Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow (2010), and The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology (2012), tous sélectionnés au Festival de Toronto. Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami (2017) est son documentaire le plus récent.
