Habib Reda (en arabe :حبيب رضا), de son vrai nom Mohamed Hattab, né le 28 mars 1919 à Miliana est un comédien et musicien algérien.
Habib Reda a eu plusieures cordes à son arc, comédien, mtetteur en scène, à la radio, au sport et suprême privilège, en participant à la Guerre d' Algérie. Condamné à mort à deux reprises durant l'héroïque Bataille d'Alger, livrée contre les paras de Massu, Habib Reda paya chèrement le prix de son engagement en se faisant incarcérer à l'école Sarouy, transformée en centre d'interrogatoire, où il fut longuement torturé.
Il entame une carrière d’acteur professionnel en 1939 dans la troupe de Mahieddine Bachtarzi dont il était un des principaux comédiens, avec son frère Madjid Reda mort au combat dans les Aurès en 1960. Habib Reda, homme affable et cultivé qui jouait Molière et Shakespeare avec brio, côtoyait les grands de l'époque à l'image de Keltoum, Sissani, Mohamed Touri, notamment.
«J'ai commencé à Djamiaât Chabiba, une association des ouléma qui enseignait la langue arabe. On donnait des représentations durant les fêtes religieuses et le mois de Ramadan. Le théâtre devint ainsi ma vocation, à telle enseigne, qu'à 18 ans, avec un ami qui voulait, lui aussi, être acteur, j'ai failli m'embarquer clandestinement pour l'Egypte, fascinés que nous étions alors par son cinéma, ses chanteurs et ses comédies musicales. C'est vers cette époque que Mahieddine Bachtarzi cherchait à étoffer sa troupe par des jeunes sachant lire et écrire l'arabe parce qu'il avait sur lui l'obligation de monter des pièces en langue arabe littéraire. Ainsi, à titre professionnel, j'ai commencé en 1939 avec le père du théâtre algérien», confiait-il dans une interview.
Comédien professionnel de théâtre sous la houlette de Mahieddine Bachtarzi qui devint son beau-père, Habib Reda est un témoin privilégié dit-on de la naissance du théâtre algérien. Au cinéma, il joue dans le premier film parlant tourné au Maghreb, "Kenzi – Mon Trésor", dans Z de Costa-Gavras…
Selon Arlette Roth, auteure de Le Théâtre Algérien (Ed. Maspero, Paris, 1967), Habib Réda appartient à la 2e génération de comédiens algériens.
A l'issue de sa carrière artistique, il devient industriel et vivra entre Alger, Paris et les États-Unis. Habib Reda est décédé le 29 mai 2013 à l’âge de 94 ans, il est inhumé au cimetière de El-Kettar à Alger.
