Beza Hailu Lemma est un réalisateur et scénariste vivant à Addis-Abeba. Passionné de documentaire et de fiction, il a déjà plusieurs courts métrages à son actif, dont « Ballad of the Spirits » (2016), « Katanga Nation » (2022) et Alazar (2024). « Katanga Nation » est présenté dans plus de 20 festivals à travers le monde, dont Visions du Réel, IDFA (Amsterdam) et le FESPACO, où il remporte le Poulain d’Argent du Meilleur court métrage documentaire. Beza participe également au Berlinale Talents, à l’Atelier du Festival de Cannes et au Filmmaker Lab du Festival International du Film de Toronto.

Beza Hailu Lemma is an Ethiopian filmmaker based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (born in 1993, Ethiopia). A graduate of Addis Ababa University’s School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, he has written, directed and independently produced a number of short films including 2017’s « Ballad of the Spirits ». He is currently writing his debut feature film titled « The Last Tears of the Deceased », which explores the idea of absolute faith and its manifestations in the context of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. His work focuses on the enigma that pervades the intersection between faith, ancient tradition and death. Beza Hailu Lemma is an alumnus of 2019 Berlinale Talents, Realness Screenwriting Residency and Africa Centre’s Artist in Residency program.
