Frédérique Cifuentes

Née en France en 1973.

Après une maîtrise d’anthropologie à Nanterre Paris-X, Frédérique Cifuentes a étudié le photojournalisme au London College of Printing. Depuis 2002, elle a réalisé plusieurs reportages sur la société soudanaise, publiés et exposés au Soudan, en Syrie, en France et en Angleterre. Son travail sera également exposé en 2005 en Chine et au Japon lors de la World Expo au pavillon des Nations Unies. Lauréate d’une bourse d’étude de la CEDEJ en 2003 et récompensée par le 3ème prix du Humanity Photo Award en 2004, elle partage son activité professionnelle entre des commandes commerciales, des publications pour magazines et des projets documentaires, dont le dernier porte sur les festivals soufis au Soudan.

Elle est aussi réalisatrice : auteure en 2008 de Cinema in Sudan: Conversations with Gadalla Gubara, un documentaire portrait de 52 minutes du cinéaste et producteur soudanais Gadalla Gubara (1920-2008).

Born in France in 1973.

Frédérique Cifuentes is an independent documentary filmmaker. She also works as a freelance photojournalist and project manager. She lives between London and Paris where she divides her time between working on assignments for commercial clients and personal projects.

She holds a masters degree in Anthropology from the university of Paris-X Nanterre and a Master Degree in photojournalism from the London College of Printing. She started her work in Sudan in 2002 and has since produced several photo-stories on the subject of Sudanese society, published and exhibited worldwide.

It was through photography that she came to know Gadalla Gubara and in this way became a filmmaker – in the African style – and directed and produced her first documentary film, « Cinema In Sudan » in 2008.
