Metropolis est un collectif de journalistes et cinéastes. Les correspondants Metropolis font des reportages vidéo personels de là où ils vivent sur une variété de sujets et de themes.

Qui sommes nous ?

L’équipe éditorial team de Metropolis a ses bureaux à VPRO TV en Hollande. VPRO est un organisme de télédiffusion public avec une forte tradition dans le documentaire.

Metropolis: wekelijks rondje aarde
Lijken we steeds meer op elkaar? Of worden de verschillen tussen mensen wereldwijd juist steeds groter? In VPRO’s Metropolis gaan we op zoek naar de antwoorden. Kern van het programma vormt een netwerk van meer dan vijftig correspondenten over de hele wereld: van New York tot Kinshasa en van Kaboel tot Rio de Janeiro. Op deze website verschijnt iedere werkdag een nieuwe bijdrage rond het thema van de week. De uitzendingen van Metropolis zijn op zondagavond om 19:50 op Nederland 3. Op de hoogte blijven? Metropolis is anders dan bestaande buitenlandrubrieken op de Nederlandse TV. Wereldwijd zochten we naar jonge filmmakers en getalenteerde videobloggers. Van de Braziliaanse favela’s tot de hipste wijken van Berlijn en van het centrum van Bangkok tot de townships rond Kaapstad: lokale filmmakers die hun omgeving door en door kennen. Door hun ogen kijken we vanaf nu iedere week mee naar verhalen uit hun wereld. We doen dat iedere week rond één thema zodat we overal ter wereld situaties kunnen gaan vergelijken. Wat betekent het om dik te zijn in Nicaragua, China of Rwanda? Hoe denken meisjes van vijftien in Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai en Riga? En wie zijn de outcasts van Bombay, Kaboel of Kigali?

Het Metropolis netwerk bestaat nu uit zo’n 50 filmmakers overal ter wereld en we zijn nog altijd op zoek naar nieuwe correspondenten buiten Nederland. Meer informatie over hoe je correspondent kunt worden vind je hier.

Metropolis komt tot stand met steun van Hivos, het Humanistisch Instituut voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking.

Metropolis wordt ook gesteund door de NCDO met gelden van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken.

The Metropolis project: a tube with a view!

Metropolis is a global collective of civil video journalists and film makers. The Metropolis correspondents make personal video reports from where they live on a variety of issues and themes. At the moment our network consists of over 50 film makers and video bloggers all over the world. Each week we make a trip around the globe on one single issue. From obesity and the lives of fifteen year old girls, to traffic jams, outcasts and Elvis impersonators, we will present to you one new ‘global view’ every week. By comparing these stories from all over the world we will discover surprising differences and similarities between people and cultures worldwide.

From New York to Beijing and from Cape Town to Moscow, our video correspondents give a unique insight into their countries, cultures and lifestyles. The full length contributions (2′ – 7′ each) will be featured on this website in both English and Dutch. Also, the contributions are edited into a weekly TV show on Dutch national television.

At this moment over 50 correspondents in 5 continents make up the Metropolis network and it will be expanding further as the project evolves. Film makers from all over the world are welcome to join our network. On this page you’ll find more information on how you can join us.

Who are we?

The editorial team of Metropolis is based at VPRO TV in The Netherlands. VPRO is a Dutch public broadcast organization with a longstanding documentary tradition. Many of our prize winning productions have been aired at festivals world wide and screened by broadcasters all over the world. Since the early days of the internet VPRO has also been a leading pioneer in new media in The Netherlands.
