After the « Nakba » of 1948, three Palestinians from different regions meet in a small town near the border. Each remembers what has happened to them. They decide to leave clandestinely tanker to the wilderness.
Set in Iraq (but shot in Syria), this is the story of three men who try to leave their impoverished and hopeless lives to get get work in Kuwait. The film portrays the lives of Palestinian refugees after the’nakba’ by following three generations of young men who made their way from Palestine to Iraq on the hope of reaching Kuwait to pursue their dreams of freedom and prosperity. The film begins with the story of the eldest of the three men, intercutting his present journey with recollections of the past.

Un chauffeur de camion-citerne accepte d’aider trois palestiniens à traverser les frontières pour aller au Koweït à la recherche d’une vie meilleure. Pendant tout le voyage, les trois clandestins n’ont pas quitté la citerne à pétrole où ils se sont cachés…
Trois Palestiniens fuient leur condition de vie sous les tentes. C’est à bord d’une citerne d’eau vide, transportée par un vieux camion, qu’ils se cacheront et traverseront le désert, à destination d’un pays pétrolier…
Le décor est l’Irak des années 50. Adaptation magistrale de la nouvelle Des hommes dans le soleil, de Ghassan Kanafani, encensée par la critique, Les Dupes est également l’un des premiers films arabes à avoir abordé la difficile situation des Palestiniens.
