Dans DECEMBRE, son troisième long-métrage sorti en 1972, Lakhdar Hamina aborde la torture en s'inspirant de l'histoire de son père, mort sous les sévices. A Alger, un des responsables du FLN est arrêté par l'armée qui emploie les méthodes les plus violentes pour faire parler les prisonniers. Le recours à la torture pose un cas de conscience à un officier français. Jouant sur le champ contre-champ, entre le torturé et son tortionnaire, dans un huis clos étouffant, Lakhdar Hamina aère son film avec des retours en arrière sur l'enfance du prisonnier qui annoncent son prochain film. In DECEMBER, his third feature film released in 1972, Lakhdar Hamina approaches torture by taking inspiration from the story of his father, who died under abuse.
