1734 km sur le fleuve Congo, une incroyable épopée pour réclamer justice. Sola, Modogo, Mama Kashinde, Papa Sylvain, Bozi, Président Lemalema… font partie de l’Association des victimes de la Guerre des Six Jours de Kisangani. Depuis 20 ans, ils se battent pour la mémoire de ce conflit et demandent réparation pour les préjudices subis. Excédés par l’indifférence des institutions à leur égard, ils décident de se rendre à Kinshasa pour faire entendre leurs voix.

Documentaire du congolais Dieudo Hamadi qui continue son travail de cinéaste-témoin. Dans Downstream to Kinshasa, il met une fois encore sa caméra dans la rue et suit un groupe d’hommes et de femmes dans sa lutte pour obtenir réparation de la part de l’état défaillant. Avec minutie et un souci de rendre tout vibrant, le film offre le privilège au spectateur d’accompagner ses héros de la vie réelle. Un magnifique geste de cinéma.

For two decades, the victims of the Six-Day War in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been fighting in Kisangani for the recognition of this bloody conflict and demanding compensation. Tired of unsuccessful pleas, they have finally decided to voice their claims in Kinshasa, after a long journey down the Congo River. From 5th to 10th June 2000, the city of Kisangani, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was the scene of heavy weapons fighting the armies of Uganda and Rwanda. The damage caused was immense: more than 10,000 shells exploded. 6,000 deaths, thousands of injured and material damages estimated at several hundred million dollars. Since then, the Association of Victims of the Six-Day War has been fighting for the recognition of this bloody conflict and demanding compensation for the damage suffered. Uganda has been found guilty of « war crimes » by the International Court of Justice, but the amount of compensation to be paid out is still being discussed two decades after the war. Tired of the bureaucratic negotiations and unsuccessful pleas that have been drawn out for years, tired of the patent indifference of their fellow countrymen, the members of the Association have finally decided to take their fate into their own hands: after a long journey on the Congo River, they will voice their claims in Kinshasa, the capital, where the institutions are based and where most of the former leaders in this war have found refuge.

Em 2000, a cidade de Kisangani, na RDC, foi palco de confrontos entre dois grupos rebeldes congoleses aliados ao Uganda e ao Ruanda. Desde então, a Associação das Vítimas da Guerra dos Seis Dias tem vindo a lutar pelo reconhecimento deste conflito e a exigir uma reparação pelos danos sofridos. Cansados de anos de luta infrutífera, os membros da Associação decidiram tomar o seu destino nas suas próprias mãos e embarcar numa longa viagem ao longo do rio Congo para fazer ouvir a sua voz em Kinshasa, no coração das instituições do país.

En 2000, la ciudad de Kisangani, en la RDC, fue escenario de enfrentamientos entre dos grupos rebeldes congoleños aliados con Uganda y Ruanda. Desde entonces, la Asociación de Víctimas de la Guerra de los Seis Días lucha por el reconocimiento de este conflicto y exige la reparación de los daños sufridos. Cansados de años de lucha infructuosa, los miembros de la Asociación decidieron tomar su destino en sus manos y embarcarse en un largo viaje a lo largo del río Congo para hacer oír su voz en Kinshasa, en el corazón de las instituciones del país.
