Joseph Bitamba

Né en 1957, Joseph Bitamba, pionnier dans l’animation au Burundi a d’abord travaillé à la Télévision Nationale Burundaise (RTNB) comme responsable des émissions pour enfants et jeunesse. Au Burundi, il avait réalisé quelques génériques d’émissions et une maquette qu’il voulait lancer mais fautes de moyens techniques adéquats et de moyens financiers, il a dû renoncer à ses projets. La maquette de 5 minutes s’intitule « I comme image » et a été diffusée en 1989 par la RTNB. Il a ensuite suivi plusieurs stages en Belgique, en France et au Burkina Faso et il a obtenu un certificat en scénarisation à l’École Internationale de Bordeaux, ainsi qu’un certificat en direction de production cinéma à Paris, à l’Institut National de l’Audio-visuel (INA). Depuis 2003, Joseph Bitamba vit désormais à Toronto au Canada, où il fait de la de la réalisation de documentaires organisés par l’ONF (Office National du Film au Canada).

Born in 1957, Joseph Bitamba, a pioneer in animation in Burundi, first worked at the Burundian National Television (RTNB) as head of children’s and youth programmes. In Burundi, he had produced a few programme trailers and a model that he wanted to launch, but due to a lack of adequate technical and financial resources, he had to abandon his projects. The 5-minute model is entitled « I comme image » and was broadcast in 1989 by RTNB. He then followed several training courses in Belgium, France and Burkina Faso and obtained a certificate in scriptwriting at the International School of Bordeaux, as well as a certificate in film production management in Paris, at the National Institute of Audio-visual (INA). Since 2003, Joseph Bitamba has been living in Toronto, Canada, where he has been directing documentaries organized by the NFB (National Film Board of Canada).
