Philbert Aimé MBABAZI SHARANGABO est titulaire d’une licence de la Haute École d’Art et de Design de Genève (département cinéma). Ses films d’école « The Liberators » et « Versus » ont été projetés dans des festivals tels que Vision du Réel à Nyon, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Tampere, Oberhausen et Uppsala Short Film Festival. Son court métrage récent « I Got My Things And Left » a remporté le Grand Prix au Festival international du court métrage d’Oberhausen en 2019 et a été projeté dans plus de 20 festivals de cinéma dont IFF Rotterdam, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Internationale Kurzfimtage Winterthur, Go Short Nijmegen, Indie Lisboa et ISFF Hambourg, FIFF Namur pour n’en citer que quelques-uns. Il dirige Imitana Productions, une société de production à Kigali-Rwanda (aux côtés de Samuel Ishimwe) qui a produit son travail et ceux de la scène dynamique des jeunes cinéastes de Kigali. Il écrit actuellement son premier long métrage SPECTRUM, qui se déroule à Genève.
Il vit en Suisse.

Philbert Aimé MBABAZI SHARANGABO holds a B.A from Haute École d’Art et de Design in Geneva in cinema department. His school films « The Liberators » and « Versus » screened in festivals such as Vision du Réel Nyon, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Tampere, Oberhausen and Uppsala Short Film Festival. His recent short film « I Got My Things And Left » won the Grand Prize at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in 2019 has screened at more than 20 film festivals including IFF Rotterdam, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Internationale Kurzfimtage Winterthur, Go Short Nijmegen, Indie Lisboa and ISFF Hamburg, FIFF Namur to name a few. He runs Imitana Productions, a production company in Kigali-Rwanda (alongside Samuel Ishimwe) which produced his work and ones of the vibrant young filmmakers’ scene in Kigali. He is currently writing his first feature film SPECTRUM, set in Geneva.


Writer/Director (Biography)
Philbert Aime Mbabazi Sharangabo`s first short film Ruhago/Destiny FM (2012) won the SIGNIS award for best emerging filmmaker in East Africa at Zanzibar International Film Festival in 2012. He later made three other short films that screened in international film festivals before he attended Haute École d’Art et de Design in Geneva where he graduated in 2017. His first school film « The Liberators »(2016) premiered in competition at Vision du Réel Nyon 2016 and later received a Special Mention at Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur in the Swiss Film school category. His second school short film „Versus »(2016), premiered in compétition at Uppsala International Film Festival 2016 and screened in competition at Oberhausen Film Festival, Tampere Film Festival and Message to Man IFF. He is currently writing his first feature film « Republika », set in Geneva’s Pâquis neighborhood (produced by Golden Egg Productions, Geneva).
